Marcia Michael

Marcia Michael is a British artist, challenging the presence of the Black subject within the auspices of the family album. She uses photography as a mode of documentation and conversation to renew a trans-disciplinary tradition of storytelling and historical recovery.

Michael’s practice centres on the reconstruction of the Black family archive injecting current discourses that speak about the Black presence in Britain with a Black feminist intergenerational visuality. Highlighting her position, Michael's work (which has been shown internationally) has won awards, received numerable global honourable mentions and is presented in books that discuss the Black presence in a diasporic context, such as Mae Petra in Brazil and Mfron Women Photographers African Diaspora from the USA.

Michael is currently expanding her practice of recovery in different mediums of matrilineal discoveries.
